Gegründet im Jahr 2019 in Berlin, Deutschland, ist Impression Taiwan e.V. eine gemeinnützige Organisation mit dem Ziel, taiwanische Filme und Kultur zu fördern. Dies erreichen wir durch unsere jährliche Veranstaltung, das Taiwan Film Festival Berlin (tffBerlin), sowie eine Vielzahl von künstlerischen und kulturellen Aktivitäten und Einzelfilmvorführungen.
Taiwan Echoes of Democracy | Taiwan Democracy and Social Movements Documentary Exhibition
Taiwan Echoes of Democracy | Taiwan Democracy and Social Movements Documentary Exhibition will take place in Berlin from 6 to 16 May 2026, bringing together a photography exhibition, film screenings, and public talks across Cineplex Alhambra, SINEMA TRANSTOPIA, and Culterim | Gesundbrunnen. Through images, film, and dialogue, the project revisits how Taiwan moved toward democracy through historical trauma, civic action, and the ongoing defence of freedom, while placing this experience in dialogue with Europe’s current public debates.

Featuring photographers including Hsieh San-Tai 謝三泰, Hsu Po-Hsin 許伯鑫, Huang Tzu-Ming 黃子明 and Pan Hsiao-Hsia 潘小俠, this exhibition brings together powerful images documenting Taiwan’s democratic movement from the 1980s onward. Shaped by 38 years and 56 days of martial law, these photographs reveal not only historic events, but the lived struggle for freedom, capturing resistance, memory, and collective will.

Film Screening
The film programme will unfold across SINEMA TRANSTOPIA and Cineplex Alhambra, bringing together A Foggy Tale, The Price of Democracy, The Accidental Politician, Eyes on Democracy, and A Chip Odyssey. While the opening film A Foggy Tale is a fiction feature, the other four documentaries approach Taiwan’s democratic experience and social transformation from multiple angles, including historical witness, grassroots activism, institutional politics, political economy, technology, and geopolitics. Eyes on Democracy will also be presented in a special version newly re-edited by the director for its Berlin screening.
