Thanks to the sponsorship of the TAIWAN FILM & AUDIOVISUAL INSTITUTE and TAIWAN DOCS (Taiwan documentary overseas promotion project), and the support of the Taiwan Ministry of Culture and the Taipei Representative Office in Germany, organised by the German non-profit organisation Impression Taiwan e.V., we are excited to announce the 7th Taiwan Film Festival Berlin will be launched on the 8th October 2024 at Moviemento Berlin.

The festival will continue the theme of ‘Professions’, focusing on the industrial and social development of work in Taiwan, which was first investigated in our documentary festival this spring. “On the Edge” is to take a more critical perspective to explore the people and tensions that are neglected or ignored under the rapid pace of life, in the family, in the workplace, on campus, in different cultural backgrounds, and in the corners of society that have traditionally been hidden. It presents these stories and characters in the context of their times and lives - what makes these characters “on the edge”?

This film festival uses different perspectives of narrative to look at the stories of different classes and situations within the workforce, and arising during the economic development of capitalist society, stimulating more dialogue and reflection, and serving as cautionary tales during this time of rising extremism globally. We look forward to inviting the Berlin and international audiences to see Taiwan and its young creators in different cultural contexts. In addition to the film screenings, there will also be online post-screening discussions, where audiences will have the opportunity to ask questions directly through a live stream with the directors.
